Adventurous border hopping on the Rhine cycle path
The EuroVelo 15 – Rhine Cycle Route follows the Rhine for 1.233 km from its source to its mouth, passing through Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany, France and the Netherlands.
In Switzerland, the snow-covered peaks of the Alps are impressive. Further highlights await you with Lake Constance, the Rhine Falls in Schaffhausen and Basel, the city at the border triangle. In Alsace the route leads to the so-called European capital, Strasbourg.
On the German side, the cycle path runs through the Baden wine-growing region. Flanked by the Black Forest and Vosges, the path continues through picturesque floodplain landscapes and the wine-growing regions of Rheinhessen, Rheingau and Middle Rhine. The Romantic Rhine region bears witness to an eventful past with its more than 60 castles and palaces. On the Lower Rhine, the river cycle path crosses metropolises such as Cologne and Düsseldorf and the largest inland port in the world in Duisburg. In the Netherlands, the Rhine branches off and the cycle path runs through several nature reserves. The Rhine finally flows into the North Sea near Rotterdam.
Always in touch
Even though the Rhine acts as a natural border between countries and regions in some places, it is also always a connection and often runs on both sides. Both historical and modern bridges and ferries enable eventful border hopping. Continuous and uniform signage makes cycling along the Rhine a relaxed experience.
