Colorful castle gardens and romantic castles along the Römer-Lippe route

It wasn't just the Romans who left their mark along the Lippe. Numerous palaces and castles from different eras line the route. Neuhaus Castle in Paderborn, a moated castle in the Weser Renaissance style, with its 42 hectares of parkland invites you to linger. Hovestadt Castle in Lippetal is also located directly on the route. Because of its strategically favorable location at the Lippe crossing, it was fiercely fought over in the Middle Ages and destroyed several times, but was always rebuilt. Cappenberg Castle in Lünen, used as a monastery until 1802 and then converted into a castle, invites you to take a break with its museum, café and wine bar.

Spend the night like a knight

Anyone who has always wanted to feel like the lord or damsel of the castle will probably find the right opportunity on this tour. For example, the Oberwerries moated castle in Hamm or the Gartrop moated castle in Hünxe invite you to stay overnight. The Gartrop moated castle is one of the most beautiful Lower Rhine complexes of the 17th century and is also located in an idyllic landscape in the extensive Lippea meadow between Lippe and the Wesel-Datteln Canal, on the edge of the Hohe Mark Nature Park.
