Asparagus, strawberries, cherries and delicious wine on the Rhine cycle path
Since the Rhine flows through six countries and diverse landscapes, it's no surprise that a wide variety of delicacies can be discovered along the EuroVelo 15 Rhine Cycle Route. Cyclists can recharge their batteries and enjoy a relaxing break with a break at a quaint inn, a modern wine bar, or one of the many restaurants.
Thanks to the mild climate, delicacies such as asparagus, strawberries, cherries and, of course, grapes thrive in many places. Since the Rhine cycle path passes through several wine-growing regions, wine lovers will also get their money's worth. Both white and red grape varieties grow in the mild climate around Lake Constance. On the right bank of the Rhine, the Markgräflerland in Baden-Württemberg is cycled through. The main thing grown here is Gutedel, a 5.000-year-old white wine grape variety. In Alsace opposite, tarte flambée is just one of many delicacies waiting for hungry cyclists.
Taste wine directly from the winemaker
A little further on, other German wine-growing regions are reached: the Palatinate and Rheinhessen. Here you can taste the wine directly from the winemaker in one of the many Straußwirtschaften. In the Rheingau opposite, world-renowned wines thrive. Riesling is primarily grown here. This fruity, racy grape variety also grows particularly well on the steep slopes of the Middle Rhine.
If you would rather drink a refreshing beer after your bike tour, Cologne or Düsseldorf are the right places, where the famous Kölsch or Altbier awaits thirsty cyclists.
